Update On 11 Oct 2010:
- R4i-Gold.eu announced the beta version of R4i Gold 1.4.1 on 11 Oct 2010 and released the final stable version of R4i Gold 1.4.1 on 11 Oct 2010.
- R4i Gold 1.4.1 is physically different from R4i Gold 1.4, i.e. their circuit boards are different. Hence, R4i Gold 1.4 CAN'T be upgraded to R4i Gold 1.4.1
- All the R4i Gold 1.4 ordered before 11 Oct 2010 are NOT compatible with DSi firmware 1.4.1E, 1.4.1U, 1.4.1J, 1.4.1A or higher.
- R4i Gold 1.4.1 is only available for pre-order until we have received the new batch of R4i Gold 1.4.1

These cards are awsome yet annoying.
firstly awsome in the fact that they are a well made , well designed bit of kit and do exactly what they say on the tin .
Secondly - annoying in the fact the kids won't leave me alone - 'can you put this on it can you put that on it for me'
word of advise - get a big memory card if you like a bit of peace .
saying that , its better than going into town every time they want something different.
All in all - well worth the money with great support from Xpertron , just ordered my second one for my little girls dsi xl

I am very please with this. Scervice was okay ordered it on Tuesday evening got it on Saturday. Works on my Dsi XL perfectly. .. The reason i only put 4 stars is because
1. I was annoyed coz i bought the product like the day befor it was on sale for like £3 less. but it is a good price.
2.I asked 2 questinos on the 'discussions' part of this product and it took long to answer it. By the time i had an answer i had already ordered it. But definatley a good product and if you have a Dsi XL then you should consider this.

Ordered and recieved items within 2 days. Just as described - wasn't too sure how to set up the car but Xpertron have kindly put a box on left hand side of page which is entitiled "set up guide and trobleshooting" which takes you through the process step by step and even includes the direct download link for software. I've placed two orders now for a total of 4 R4i Gold cards. The first orders was 3 cards which came with "www.r4i-gold.com" on the front. I couldnt find the firmware (seems there are many different varities of r4i gold). I raised a ticket late at night without much hope by start of business the following day I had myself an answer, installed and everything worked.
The second order, 1 card, came with "www.r4i-gold.eu". Same firmware didn't work on this one but, again, raised a ticket and I quickly got the answer i was looking for.
So, if you want to get a card and help with figuring out what firmware you need then these guys are the ticket. It's one thing to get good product & prices, it's another to also get excellent support.
The reason I haven't given a full 5 stars is because some of my support calls could have easily been answered with a good quality FAQ which should you how to identify a card, and link you to a firmware download!

Firmware update

I have updated the firmware of my card using the file fwup142c.nds from the www.r41-gold.eu website, and installed R4i English V1.48b. When updating the firmware I waited until it reported that it was completed 100% and that I must restart my DSi XL to continue. I did this and then did a System Update of the NDS. It’s now at Ver 1.4.2E.
Now, on selecting the card Start icon, the screen then freezes at Loading ... www.r4i-gold.www.
I realise that neither of these updates are available directly yet from your website but wonder if either you have any idea how I can recover from this update, or whether any other users are experiencing the same problem (suggesting that I really did follow the instructions correctly).

I've just bought a R4i Gold Card v 1.4.1. I can see the card on my DSi but I can't play any games. It was fine when I had a v1.4 R4i gold card (now lost). Does this mean I have to update the firmware on my Dsi? If so how do I do this and is it ok to do this?

The problem relating to compatability issues - your reply is 'It will probably be resolved when they update it' you also say, if I want to know more then I should contact them directly. Fact is, they can't be contacted, the emails are returned undelivered. If they can't update since December 2010, why are you still selling their cards? Why not remove them from your stock list till they get their act together, show some support for the customers who support you.

If your DS is showing "Fake card, please return to retailer", it is due to kernel/driver problem. Once the correct kernel/driver is copied onto the microSD, the issue will be resolved immediately.

Hello
I have installed the 1.44b on a DS. I hSome of the gave copied the games onto the root directory. Interestingly, some of the games have their icon recognised and displayed, and can be played. However, there are some games where their icons are not show but have R4i in the icon, and these games cannot be played and hangs when it is run.
Is this a games compatibility issue?

Is there a better card out there that plays most nds roms , and DIVX would be cool too to play downloaded films?

I have tried several kernal software but when the card is put into the DSi we get a "There is no card inserted in the game card slot" Does anyone have a solution as we are going away and its a pain having to take all the game carts. Before putting the driver on the memory card, one needs to unzip the driver first. Then proceed to place all the unzipped files under the root folder of the memory card, i.e. the unzipped files should not be under any other folder.

Installation
Format a Micro SD/SDHC Card
- Using Windows XP/Vista/7 Format Tool
- Using Panasonic Memory Card Format Program
- Using Mac Memory Card Format Tool
Using Windows XP/Vista/7 Format Tool
a) After inserting the microSD into the card reader, go to My Computer.
b) Right click the driver representing the microSD memory card.
c) Choose Format

d) Click Start to format the memory card in FAT32
Using Panasonic Memory Card Format Software
Note: If your memory cards have capacity bigger than 32GB, please download the SD/SDHC/SDXC Memory Cards Format Software. If your memory cards have capacity equal or smaller than 32GB, please download the SD/SDHC Memory Cards Format Software. Detailed guide is available from the SD Association here. - Insert SD/SDHC Memory Card into reader/writer.

Click on [Start], point to [All Programs] -> [Panasonic] -> [SD Formatter VX.X], and click on [SD Formatter VX.X].
- “X.X” means the version number of SD Memory Card Formatting Software.
- If “User Account Control” window is displayed on the screen, please click on [Arrow].
- The main window is displayed on the screen.
- Select the target drive by drive list and check SD/SDHC Memory Card size.
- Click on [Format].
- After clicking on it, confirmation window is displayed on the screen. Here, if [OK] is clicked, this software executes the format operation. On the contrary, if [Cancel] is clicked, this software cancels the format operation and returns to the main window.
- The following status window is displayed on the screen during the format operation. Note: [Cancel] on this window is available only if either “FULL (Erase ON)” or “FULL (Erase OFF)” is selected as format type option. If “QUICK” is selected as format type option, this button is not available.
- After the format operation completion, click [OK] and remove the Memory Card from your PC.
- Reinsert the memory card to the PC to start using the memory card.
Using Mac Memory Card Format Tool
- Plug your memory card reader into a USB port on your Mac. Insert the microSD / microSDHC card into the memory card reader's microSD / microSDHC slot, and the microSD / microSDHC card will mount on your Mac desktop.
- In an open Finder window, single-click "Applications" in the Side-Bar and scroll down to find the Utilities folder. Find Disk Utility in the Utilities folder and double-click the "Disk Utility" application to launch it.
- In the opened Disk Utility application, single-click to select the microSD / microSDHC card in the left-hand Drives column. Then, single-click to select the "Erase" button in the top row of radio buttons. Select the format MS-DOS (FAT) to format the microSD / microSDHC card on the "Volume Format" pop-up button. When you have finished selecting the formatting options, click "Erase."
- A new dialogue box will pop up in "Disk Utility," asking if you are sure you wish to erase the microSD / microSDHC card. Caution: Erasing the microSD / microSDHC card will permanently erase any files. Make sure you have backed up any file you wish to keep. To continue with the formatting process, click "Erase."
- Once the microSD / microSDHC card has been erased, it will mount on your Mac desktop just as any other removable drive.
R4i Gold Card Setup Guide

Unzip the file downloaded (using Winrar) on your PC
- Winrar can be downloaded from www.download.com by searching for Winrar at the Search.

Unzip the file R4i V1.53b English, you will have ：

Select all the above five unzipped files and copy them to the microSD memory card

- Copy your own files, including music, movies, pictures and other data to the Micro SD/SDHC memory card.
- Plug in the Micro SD/SDHC to the R4i Gold. Insert the R4i Gold with the microSD into the slot 1 of the DS console. Turn on the DS console.

You will see the WARNING – HEALTH AND SAFETY message. Touch the touch screen or press button A to continue.

- If the screen is stuck with the ‘Loading’ or ‘Fake Card’ message, it is due to the wrong driver being used. Please check the Software Preparation at the top of this guide and re-do the software download & installation.
